About this wine

Two decades of patient ageing in the Douro Valley have transformed Barão de Vilar's 20 Year Old Tawny Port into a wine of exceptional complexity and refinement. Presented in its distinctive hand-painted bottle — each one a unique work of art — this is both a wine to savour and a gift to treasure long after the last sip.

The colour speaks immediately of its age: a warm amber tawny with burnished gold tones at the rim, beautiful in the glass. On the nose, twenty years of careful barrel maturation reveal themselves in rich, layered aromas of dried apricot, toasted hazelnut, caramel, warm baking spice, and a subtle hint of orange marmalade. On the palate, the wine is rich yet beautifully balanced — its natural sweetness counterbalanced by lively acidity and a gentle tannic grip that keeps the finish fresh, long, and harmonious.

The solera ageing system used in its production blends wines of varying ages to create a consistent, complex house style that represents the character of aged Tawny at its finest. Velvety and deeply satisfying, it finishes with a warming elegance that makes it impossible to put down.

An exceptional gift for anniversaries, milestone birthdays, or any occasion that deserves something truly special. Serve lightly chilled at 12–14°C, paired with crème brûlée, walnut tart, pecan praline, mature cheddar, Stilton, or simply enjoyed slowly on its own.

About the producer

Barão de Vilar is a distinguished Port house rooted in the van Zeller family's fourteen-generation connection to the Douro Valley, formalised as a modern estate in 1996. Their celebrated hand-painted Tawny Ports — spanning 10, 20, 30, and 40 years of ageing — are prized for their artisan presentation and extraordinary complexity. Sourced from the family's estates in São João da Pesqueira and Torre de Moncorvo, they represent benchmark aged Port.
