Why we chose it

“Dao is one of Portugal’s most elegant red wine regions — cooler, more structured than Alentejo. This Reserva has real depth and finesse. A great food wine.”

About this wine

Flor d'Pennalva Reserva Dão Tinto is a beautifully crafted red from the heart of Portugal. Expressive on the nose with notes of dark cherry, plum and gentle spice, it flows into a rounded palate of ripe fruit, cocoa and vanilla from subtle oak ageing. The finish lingers with silky tannins and refined balance.

The vineyards lie in the Castendo district, where local growers tend traditional grape varieties on rugged granitic slopes. Sheltered by the Serra da Estrela mountains and sitting at 500m altitude, this unique microclimate gives the wine its hallmark freshness, power and elegance — a true expression of the Dão region's character.

About the producer

Adega de Penalva do Castelo is a Dão winery revived by Abegoaria, the winemaking project of the Bio family. Originally from Alentejo, Ana and Manuel Bio have invested in Portugal's wine heritage by modernising facilities and revitalising wineries in historic regions. Penalva's Dão wines are crafted from traditional grape varieties grown on rugged granitic terrain in the district of Castendo, at 500m altitude beneath the protective shadow of the Serra da Estrela.
