A Portuguese Gem with Depth and Elegance

Tasting Notes

Made from a blend of Touriga Nacional, Jaen (the Portuguese name for Mencía), Alfrocheiro, and Tinta Roriz, this Dão Reserva is a beautifully structured red wine with layers of complexity. Juicy blackberry and dark cherry fruits are balanced by six months of oak ageing, adding subtle notes of vanilla and toast. Aromas of violets, mocha, and spice enhance the nose, while the palate is smooth yet full-bodied, with refined tannins and a lingering finish.

Perfect Serve

Best enjoyed decanted for 30 minutes to unlock its full potential. Serve at 16–18°C in a large glass to appreciate its depth. Pairs wonderfully with roast lamb, grilled steaks, venison, or a hearty mushroom risotto.

The Winemaking Story

Flor d’Pennalva Reserva is crafted by Adega de Penalva do Castelo, a Dão winery revived by Abegoaria, the winemaking project of the Bio family. Originally from Alentejo, Ana and Manuel Bio have invested in Portugal’s wine heritage, modernising facilities and revitalising historic wineries.

The vineyards are located in the district of Castendo, where local farmers cultivate traditional grape varieties on rugged granitic terrain. The Serra da Estrela mountains provide natural protection, while the 500m altitude creates a unique microclimate, producing wines with freshness, power, and elegance.

A Taste of Dão

Dão is one of Portugal’s oldest wine regions, lying just south of the Douro Valley. The area is home to Touriga Nacional, the principal variety of Port wine, and takes its name from the Dão river, a tributary of the larger Mondego river. Most vineyards are situated alongside the river, benefiting from its cooling influence. The region is renowned for wines with vibrant fruit, refined structure, and excellent ageing potential.
