Why we chose it

“Chapoutier’s Viognier from the southern Rhône — peach, jasmine, warmth. Not as intense as their Condrieu but at half the price. Brilliant with spiced roast chicken.”

About this wine

M. Chapoutier is one of the Rhône Valley's most influential estates, with roots in Tain-l'Hermitage dating back to 1808. Under Michel Chapoutier's direction, the domaine was one of the first major French producers to convert entirely to biodynamic viticulture — a commitment that runs through every wine in the range. La Combe Pilate is a Viognier produced from organically farmed Rhône vineyards, expressing the variety's naturally aromatic, perfumed character with genuine elegance.

Bone dry and beautifully fresh, it shows ripe peach, apricot and a delicate note of honeysuckle on the nose. The palate is clean, focused and lively with a long, mineral finish that reflects the quality of the biodynamic farming. Excellent alongside shellfish, pan-fried scallops, mild Thai dishes or simply as an aromatic apéritif.

About the producer

M. Chapoutier is one of the Rhône Valley's most influential estates, with roots in Tain-l'Hermitage dating back to 1808. Under Michel Chapoutier's direction since 1990, the domaine converted entirely to biodynamic viticulture — one of the first major French producers to do so. Chapoutier crafts wines across the Northern and Southern Rhône, from benchmark Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie to Crozes-Hermitage and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, as well as wines in Australia, Portugal, and Alsace.
