About this wine

Sherry remains one of the wine world's great underappreciated treasures, and Oloroso is among its most compelling styles: bone dry, oxidatively aged and full of extraordinary complexity. Don José Oloroso comes from the historic house of Sánchez Romate Hnos., founded in Jerez de la Frontera in 1781, one of the oldest sherry bodegas in existence. The wine is aged through the traditional solera system, exposed to air without a flor yeast cap, developing deep colour and intense character over time.

Rich amber in the glass, the nose opens with walnut, dried fig, warm spice and the characteristic nutty oxidative depth of aged Oloroso. The palate is dry and full-bodied with remarkable intensity and a long, savoury finish. An exceptional partner for hard aged cheese, charcuterie, walnuts or simply savoured on its own.

About the producer

Founded in 1781, Sánchez Romate Hnos. is one of the oldest sherry houses in Jerez de la Frontera. The family bodega is best known for Cardenal Cisneros Pedro Ximénez and Marismeño Fino, and produces the celebrated Kardinal brandy. Operating from their historic cellars in the heart of Jerez, Romate upholds the traditional solera ageing system that defines the finest wines of the region.
