Somerset Wine Fair 2025 – What to Expect

The Somerset Wine Fair is one of the highlights of our year — an evening where our community gathers to explore wines from around the world, meet the people behind the bottles, and share in the simple pleasure of wine done well. The 2025 edition at Sidcot Arts Centre was everything we hoped for and more.

An Evening of Discovery

From the moment guests arrived and collected their tasting glass, the room came alive. Over 100 wines were available to taste — from crisp whites and elegant reds to sparkling wines and rich fortified styles. Guests wandered at their own pace, stopping to taste, to ask questions, and to make notes on bottles they wanted to take home.

The format is deliberately relaxed. There are no fixed tastings, no compulsory tours, and no pressure. You arrive, you explore, and you discover at your own pace — which is why the fair consistently attracts people who have never set foot in a wine tasting room alongside seasoned collectors and enthusiasts.

Meet the Makers

What sets the Somerset Wine Fair apart from a simple tasting is the presence of the people who made the wines. Importers, producers, and local Somerset winemakers were on hand throughout the evening, sharing the stories behind their bottles. These conversations are often where the evening's most memorable moments happen — a brief exchange over a glass that opens a door into a wine world you had not previously considered.

Eleanor Thatcher — Hellenge Hill

Eleanor Thatcher introduced her family's sparkling wine Hellenge Hill — a genuinely exciting addition to the world of English sparkling wine, made right here in Somerset. The talk drew a strong crowd and sparked real enthusiasm for what is possible on English soil, just a few miles from where many of us live.

Joe from Vignamaggio, Tuscany

Joe joined us from Vignamaggio — one of Italy's most historic estates, nestled in the Chianti Classico hills and documented as a winemaking property since at least the 14th century. His account of the estate's approach to Sangiovese — patient, traditional, and deeply focused on terroir — was one of the highlights of the evening.

One of the highlights of every fair is the opportunity to order wines you love at special on-the-night prices. With tickets priced at £28 and fully refundable against any wine purchased on the evening, the fair is as much a buying occasion as a tasting event. Wine can be collected from the shop or delivered to your door — making it easy to take home a case of something discovered on the night.
