Why we chose it

“Finishing whisky in plum sake casks could easily have gone wrong; instead it adds soft fruit rather than sugar. Make a highball with it — that is what Japanese whisky does best.”

About this wine

Hatozaki Triple Cask Reserve is a celebration of innovative Japanese craftsmanship by Master Distiller and Blender Kimio Yonezawa. This distinctive blended whisky is first aged in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks, before being finished for a further six months in Akashi-Tai's superior Umeshu Plum Sake Liqueur barrels, a rare and special process that imparts delicate sweetness and depth.

Finished and bottled in Japan, this elegant whisky offers notes of soft plum, honeyed malt and subtle spice, with a refined balance that reflects its careful maturation. Best enjoyed neat, over ice, or in a classic Highball.

About the producer

Located in the port city of Akashi in Hyogo Prefecture, Kaikyo Distillery is the home of Hatozaki whisky. Under master distiller Kimio Yonezawa, the distillery ages its malt whiskies in a combination of ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and rare Mizunara oak casks, drawing on both Japanese craftsmanship and the briny coastal air of the Akashi Strait.
