Why we chose it

“Sacha Lichine's entry point into Provence rosé, made in the Var rather than the Côtes de Provence. Light, dry and endlessly drinkable on a warm afternoon.”

About this wine

The Pale is Sacha Lichine's most relaxed rosé, made in the Var from Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle and a little Syrah. The grapes are picked at night to keep everything fresh, then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel and left on the lees to build a little texture. Pale and clear in the glass, it offers redcurrant, pink grapefruit and white flowers, with a crisp, dry finish. Light and bright, it is the kind of bottle that empties quietly.

Sacha Lichine is the man who turned Provence rosé into a serious business when he bought Château d'Esclans and created Whispering Angel. The Pale is his most approachable bottle, made for warm afternoons rather than long dinners. Serve it well chilled at 8 to 10°C with grilled prawns, a goat's cheese salad, or a plate of charcuterie in the garden.

About the producer

Château d'Esclans is the Provence estate behind Whispering Angel, the wine that almost single-handedly changed the world's perception of rosé. Created by Sacha Lichine in 2006 from a historic Var estate near La Motte, the château works with old Grenache and Rolle vines to produce a range of Provence rosés at varying price points. Their wines — from the approachable Whispering Angel to the prestige Rock Angel and the estate bottling — set the benchmark for elegant, pale, dry Provençal rosé.
