Why we chose it

“Côtes de Bourg is Bordeaux’s more rustic neighbour and Gassiot does it well — earthy, dark fruit, honest structure. Good value Right Bank red.”

About this wine

Château Gassiot 2019 is a beautifully structured wine from the Côtes de Bourg, combining bold fruit flavours with elegant finesse. On the nose, ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and plums intertwine with subtle hints of cedar, tobacco, and a touch of vanilla. The palate is rich and layered, offering silky tannins, a velvety texture, and a lingering finish with notes of spice and earthy minerality.

Decant for an hour before serving at 16–18°C to allow its full complexity to unfold. Pairs wonderfully with roast lamb, hearty beef dishes, or a selection of mature cheeses. Hailing from the picturesque Côtes de Bourg region, Château Gassiot is crafted from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, delivering a wine that reflects the terroir's unique qualities.

About the producer

Chateau Gassiot is a Bordeaux estate in the Cotes de Bourg appellation, part of the Vignobles Faure group. The chateau produces classic Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blends from the limestone and clay soils of the Bourg hills on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, crafting wines of genuine character that offer excellent value from this underrated appellation just across the river from the Medoc.

Chateau Gassiot Cotes de Bourg 2019

Not as smooth as another Cotes de Bourg, whose identity I have forgotten. However becomes smoother with every sip, and while snacking on Castello Creamy Blue cheese and Co-op Rosemary and Sea Salt crackers.

Thanks, Grant! That’s a brilliant tasting note—sometimes a wine just needs a little time (and the right snack!) to really shine. Sounds like a fantastic pairing with the blue cheese and rosemary crackers. If you ever remember that other Côtes de Bourg, let us know—we’d love to compare!
