Why we chose it

“A touch of distilled alcohol is traditional in honjozo, not a shortcut — it lifts the aromatics and dries the finish. Warm it gently and drink it with grilled fish or a savoury broth.”

Kelli - Wine Buyer
About this wine

Akashi-Tai Honjozo Tokubetsu is a premium Japanese sake made using traditional methods with a touch of added distilled alcohol for enhanced flavour. It offers soft aromas of steamed rice and nuts, followed by a clean palate with umami richness, subtle fruit and a dry, balanced finish.

Versatile and food-friendly, it pairs beautifully with grilled fish, tempura or savoury broths. Serve gently warmed or lightly chilled.

About the producer

Akashi Sake Brewery has worked on the shore of Osaka Bay in Hyogo since 1918, beginning in shochu before turning to the sake that made its Akashi-Tai name. Toji Kimio Yonezawa still brews in small hand-made batches, drawing on Hyogo's celebrated rice and soft water, and the brewery now exports its sake and liqueurs to some thirty-five countries.
