La Cabeza de Perro Tinto – Fresh and Vibrant Bierzo Mencía
La Cabeza de Perro Tinto is a youthful and expressive red from Bierzo, created to capture the freshness, energy and easy-going charm of the region’s wines. Produced mainly from Mencía with a small percentage of Godello co-fermented in the traditional Bierzo style, this is a wine designed for relaxed drinking, lively conversation and reaching naturally for another glass.
The wine comes from some of Cantarina’s newest vineyards in Paraje El Cotelo near Villafranca del Bierzo. Its unusual name, translating as “The Dog’s Head”, comes from the aerial shape of the vineyard itself, which resembles the outline of a dog’s head from above. South-facing vines planted between 550 and 600 metres altitude grow in clay and stony soils that help preserve freshness and minerality in the finished wine.
Hand-harvested in small 15kg cases at the end of August, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts in stainless steel before ageing for 12 months in steel vats to maintain purity, brightness and fruit character.
Bright cherry, bramble and wild berry fruits lead the palate, supported by delicate floral notes, subtle herbs and a fresh mineral edge. The texture is juicy and supple, with lively acidity and soft tannins making the wine wonderfully approachable and highly food-friendly.
Fresh, characterful and unmistakably modern Bierzo, this is a superb red for tapas, charcuterie, grilled meats and relaxed evenings with friends.

Best red wine we've tasted, all bottles packaged well and received in good condition
Absolutely recommend all of the wines, some I did not think I would enjoy but loved them all.
Really great having a nice glass of wine to go with my meal.
A real treat, can’t wait to order again
Lyre's Sparkling has a very pleasant taste and stands out in the "zero" space. It arrived very promptly after ordering from The Wine Shop.
We invited the lovely Rector of our parish church (the oldest church in Surrey) over for supper with her equally charming husband a while back. They were very kind enough to bring a bottle of this wonderful wine with them as a gift. We liked it so much I subsequently ordered 7 bottles from The Wine Shop to be delivered. I can recommend the wine AND The Wine Shop highly. In fact I have just placed a further order for another 8 bottles.
This one was a surprise find at a local restaurant, so we sought it out to order more. It's hard to describe a flavour, as much as it is to describe sound, but it may be easier to recount my experience of it. Here goes... It has good balance of fruit and body; it doesn't dry the mouth nor kill my palate after a single glass. It's a Primitivo from Puglia, so it has that character. Definitely recommended.
Thought I would give this wine a go as it was a favourite of Winston Churchill, well what can I say but Winston had great taste in red wine. A lovely dark red colour and a deceptive first slurp brings a super easy drink which then catches up to you with a powerful warm feeling in your stomach. Let’s just say it’s dangerously good. 😉
This is my second order of 12 bottles! Lovely wine, easy drinking! Mellow, light fruity notes and a clean refreshing finish!
This Primitivo is waaaay above the equivalent you would be able to buy in a supermarket at a comparable price point.
It pairs really well with Lasagna and rich meaty pasta dishes. Stands up well with strong flavours, such as garlic.
In fact it would pair well with a beef stew from any country, goulash etc.
It is also a lovely velvety wine that could be enjoyed on its own after the meal.
Fantastic value and easy drinking, in a good way.
Great service from the he Wine Shop, really quick delivery well packed and the wine was splendid.
Wine Shop offered the best price and I can highly recommend them.
My first ever wine from the Wine Shop! This is a beautifully smooth wine but which also has a bit of ‘bite’. Very happy with this wine and I’ll be back!
Bought this as a present for my 22 year old son who was 15 when he first had a taste on a D Day visit 7 years ago. The wine is just as I remembered it, smooth and round, a delicious drink. My son also enjoyed the taste, as an adult.
It doesn’t get better than this!
I love Botter chianti. It has a great peppery finish and the bottle is a delight. Quick and reliable delivery too.
Amazing wine and a 24 hours delivery service.
Excellent service. Thank you
Very moreish sparkling Pinot Grigio at a reasonable price. Light and refreshing with none of the acidity or slight chemical aftertaste you often get with sparkling wines at this price. Went through a dozen bottles far too quickly.
