The Higher Plot vineyards are found on the White Lias Limestone slopes near Langport in south Somerset, with ideal aspect and nutrients for making wine.

The Smith & Evans Trilogy 2 MV is the second release in their Trilogy series of multi-vintage English sparkling wines, intended as a premium cuvée showcasing the complexity that comes from blending multiple vintages rather than expressing a single harvest.  The vintages are mainly 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Champagne houses often have many reserve wines to choose from when blending their cuvees, and Guy from Smith & Evans says this expression is an homage to Krug, renowned for its extensive reserve wine collection.

Critical acclaim

One of the standout achievements of Trilogy 2 is that it has received:

  • 95/100 from Decanter, with the winery noting this is the second time the wine has achieved that score.

That places it among the highest-rated English sparkling wines currently available.

If you're considering buying it, Trilogy 2 is generally regarded as one of Smith & Evans' flagship sparkling wines, sitting above their standard vintage releases in terms of complexity and ageing potential. It should also continue to develop well in bottle over the next 5–10 years if stored correctly.

Tasting profile

Complex, top-tier sparkling wine with:

  • Fine, persistent mousse
  • Citrus and orchard fruit
  • Toasted brioche and biscuit notes from extended lees ageing
  • Fresh acidity balanced by considerable depth and texture
  • A long, mineral finish

Enjoy as an aperitif and alongside seafood, shellfish, roast chicken or creamy cheeses.
