Why we chose it“A German Pinot Noir that wins people over on the first sip. Silky, cherry-bright and gently savoury, my go-to with mushroom ravioli or roast pork.”

About this wine
Karl Johner Pinot Noir Kaiserstuhl is a silky, beautifully balanced German red from the sunny Kaiserstuhl in Baden, one of the warmest corners of Germany. It opens with red berries, wild strawberry, red cherry and plum, layered with gentle toast, smoke, cedar and a hint of cinnamon from careful oak ageing. With time in the glass, savoury notes of forest floor and dry leaves emerge. Dry, with medium acidity, fine tannins and a satisfying finish, the 2017 is now drinking well and will keep for several more years.
The Johner family estate sits on the western side of the Kaiserstuhl, where Karl Heinz Johner founded the domaine in the mid-1980s and his son Patrick now leads the winemaking. Every wine is matured in oak, and Pinot Noir is the estate's great speciality. Serve slightly cool with mushroom ravioli, roast duck or roast and grilled pork. A lovely introduction to German Spätburgunder, suitable for vegetarians, and a thoughtful gift with our free gift message service.
