About this wine

This is an excellent-value organic red from the Jumilla appellation in south-east Spain, produced entirely from organically grown Monastrell (also known as Mourvèdre). Bodegas Luzón specialises in this variety, with fruit sourced from mature, dry-farmed bush vines grown at around 650 to 800 metres altitude. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel using indigenous yeasts to preserve freshness and varietal character.

Deep purple with vibrant violet highlights, the nose offers juicy cherries, strawberries, black plums and blackberry, with floral violet notes and a touch of sweet spice. The palate is fresh and succulent with ripe black fruit, supple tannins and a subtle mineral edge, medium to full-bodied with a long, vibrant finish. Certified organic and suitable for vegan and vegetarian diets, it pairs particularly well with roast lamb, grilled pork or sausages, slow-cooked beef stews, rich tomato-based pasta, barbecue dishes, game meats, mature Manchego or Cheddar, and vegetarian dishes featuring roasted Mediterranean vegetables or mushrooms.

About the producer

Bodegas Luzón is one of the leading producers in Jumilla, southeast Spain, a region dominated by the powerful, deeply-coloured Monastrell grape. The winery works with some of the region's oldest vines — many pre-phylloxera and ungrafted — planted in the poor limestone soils that stress the vines into producing concentrated, complex fruit. As pioneers of premium non-alcoholic wine, their Contraseña range applies advanced dealcoholisation technology to retain all the depth, structure and flavour of traditional Monastrell, without the alcohol.
