Why we chose it

“Quinta da Pedra Alta Tinto Reserva — the reserve level Douro red, with more structure and ageing potential than the standard. Touriga Nacional at its most serious.”

About this wine

Quinta da Pedra Alta Pedra a Pedra Tinto Reserva 2022 is a bold and refined red from one of the Douro's most exciting emerging estates. Blending Touriga Nacional (61%), Touriga Franca (21%), Tinta Barroca (16%) and Sousão (2%), it offers rich aromas of dark fruit including blackberries, plums and ripe cherries, complemented by notes of tobacco, spice and subtle oak. On the palate, full-bodied and well-structured, with velvety tannins, layers of black fruit and dark chocolate, and a long, smooth finish.

Crafted by winemaker João Pires from carefully selected grapes grown in the heart of the Douro Valley, fermented in small batches and aged in oak barrels to develop complexity while maintaining the region's fresh fruit character. Serve at 16 to 18°C alongside grilled meats, hearty stews or an aged cheese platter.

About the producer

Quinta da Pedra Alta is a premium Douro Valley estate located near Alijó in the Cima Corgo sub-region. The quinta holds the extraordinary distinction of having three original granite markers from the historic 1758 demarcation of the Douro wine region on its land. Since 2018, under owner Ed Woodward, resident winemaker João Pires, and Australian consultant Matt Gant, the estate has emerged as one of the Douro's most exciting producers of structured table wines and traditional Port.
