About this wine
A Small Bottle of Veronese Sweetness
Amando is a Recioto della Valpolicella, the sweet wine that Valpolicella was making long before Amarone existed. Corvina and Rondinella grapes are dried through the winter to concentrate their sugars, giving an intense garnet red with a nose of cherry liqueur. The palate carries moderate sweetness rather than syrup, and it finishes bittersweet and long. At 17% it has real presence for a dessert wine.
It comes in a 50cl bottle sold singly, which makes it a fine bottle to give as a gift or to open when there are only two of you. Serve it cool in small glasses with dark chocolate, a bitter cherry tart, or a wedge of Gorgonzola. It is also lovely on its own at the end of a long dinner, when nobody wants another glass of red.

Where This Wine Comes From
Recioto is the historic sweet wine of Valpolicella, made in the hills above Verona. Grapes are dried through the winter and fermentation is halted while natural sugar remains.
Corvina and Rondinella
The classic Valpolicella pair, dried before pressing so their sugars and flavours concentrate.
Amarone's Older Sibling
Amarone began as a happy accident, a Recioto left to ferment dry. Recioto came first, and remains the region's traditional dessert wine.
