Why we chose it

“Lively and full of strawberry and raspberry. Made for a sunny aperitif, though I would happily pour it with a winter roast chicken too.”

About this wine

La Chapelle Rosé is a cheerful, fruit-forward pink from Gascony, with a beautiful bright colour and a nose of freshly picked strawberries. On the palate it opens into a generous spread of red fruit, with strawberry and raspberry joined by a light note of redcurrant. The finish is lively and refreshing, leaving a lovely sense of lightness at 11%.

It is made at Domaine de Pellehaut in Montréal-du-Gers, where the Béraut family have tended the vines for more than 300 years and brothers Mathieu and Martin now craft a range of fresh, aromatic wines alongside their Armagnac. Seven grapes led by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon go into the blend, and the colour comes from the saignée method, where the lightly tinted juice is run off after a brief maceration and fermented cool to keep all of its fruit. Serve it well chilled as an aperitif or with grilled chicken and pork, and keep a bottle to hand through the winter as well as the summer.

About the producer

Domaine de Pellehaut is a family estate at Montréal-du-Gers in Gascony, owned and run by successive generations of the Béraut family for more than 300 years and one of the oldest vineyards in the Gers. Brothers Mathieu and Martin Béraut farm 180 hectares across three gently rolling hills of clay-limestone, sand and clay, producing Armagnac and breeding Blonde d'Aquitaine cattle alongside a range of fresh, aromatic and easy-drinking wines, all in harmony with the rich biodiversity around the estate.
