Why we chose it

“Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz — the Coonawarra expression of Penfolds Shiraz. Structured, dark and precise. The 28 is one of the great Australian red wine benchmarks.”

About this wine

Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz is one of the classic wines from Penfolds, first produced in 1959 and regarded as the winery's original Bin wine. A multi-region South Australian Shiraz, it is known for its rich fruit, full body and remarkable consistency, and is often considered a benchmark for warm-climate Australian Shiraz: powerful, generous and age-worthy.

Expect blackberry, black cherry and plum fruit alongside dark chocolate, mocha, vanilla and spice, with firm but ripe tannins and a full-bodied texture. Enjoyable on release, it develops additional complexity over eight to fifteen years when stored properly. A natural match for grilled ribeye steak, lamb chops, beef brisket, barbecue dishes and aged Cheddar or other hard cheeses.

About the producer

Penfolds is one of Australia's most iconic wine producers, founded in 1844 by Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary, who planted the first vines at Magill Estate near Adelaide. For over 180 years, the winery has pursued a philosophy of excellence and multi-regional blending, producing wines from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and beyond. Penfolds is best known for its Grange, Australia's most celebrated wine, and its enduring Bin series.
