Why we chose it“Sichel treat this with the same care they give their classed growths, and you can taste where the barrel work has gone. A proper step up from everyday white Bordeaux, and lovely with a plate of shellfish.”

About this wine
Sirius Bordeaux Blanc pours a limpid pale yellow with green tints. Sauvignon Blanc leads the nose with mineral notes, white flowers and exotic fruit, while a spell in barrel adds gentle vanilla and a touch of toast. The palate is beautifully balanced, with Sémillon lending a lush, rounded texture beneath the freshness and aromatic length. A long mineral finish rounds out a genuinely fine white Bordeaux.
Sirius was created in 1985 by Peter Sichel, who set out to prove that the meticulous methods of the Bordeaux Grands Crus Classés could be applied to less celebrated terroirs. The grapes come from clay-limestone vineyards along the banks of the Garonne, worked by vines averaging thirty years of age, and are vinified by the Sichel team with the same care given to their Graves and Pessac-Léognan wines. Around a fifth of the blend ferments in new oak before ageing on the fine lees, which is where its quiet richness comes from. Serve it well chilled alongside a seafood platter or grilled fish, or simply pour it as an aperitif.
