Why we chose it“Hand-painted bottles often mean you are paying for the paint, but ten years in small cask has done the real work here. Slightly chilled, small glass, hard cheese or dark chocolate.”

About this wine
Barão de Vilar is rooted in the van Zeller family's fourteen-generation connection to the Douro Valley — one of the world's oldest demarcated wine regions. Their celebrated hand-painted Tawny Ports are prized both for their artisan presentation and for the extraordinary complexity that comes with extended cask ageing. Ten years in small oak casks transforms the vivid purple of young Port into a rich amber tawny colour, developing aromas of roasted nuts, dried fruit, orange peel and subtle spice, followed by a smooth, gently warming palate and a long, lingering finish.
Serve slightly chilled in a small glass alongside hard cheeses, dark chocolate or walnut cake. This hand-painted bottle also makes a stunning and memorable gift.
