Why we chose it“Bratanov Syrah Viognier Pop Up from Bulgaria — the combination is classic Northern Rhône but the execution is uniquely Bulgarian. Peppery Syrah with floral Viognier lift.”

About this wine
Bratanov Syrah Viognier Pop Up is a striking, small-batch Bulgarian red made using whole-bunch co-fermentation of Syrah and Viognier grapes. Fermented with natural wild yeasts, the wine captures a vivid sense of place, allowing the fruit and vineyard character to shine without heavy intervention. Expect ripe blackberry and dark cherry layered with cracked black pepper and a gentle floral lift from the Viognier, with fine tannins and a savoury, lingering finish. A superb partner for grilled meats, roasted vegetables or slow-cooked dishes.
The Bratanov family winery is the result of the hard work and dedication of a father and his sons who embarked on a mission to restore the family wine tradition after a break of 50 years. Their 44ha of vineyards lie on the sunny hills of South Sakar mountain near the village of Shishmanovo in the Harmanli region, highly regarded as one of the best terroirs in Bulgaria, planted with local varieties Rubin, Mavrud, Gamza and Tamianka alongside Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier and Chardonnay. Established in 2010, the winery crafts limited batches with minimal intervention, controlling the whole process from grape to bottle, and since the 2016 vintage all wines are fermented wild with the native yeasts of the vineyards.
