About this wine

A Bold Bulgarian Pop-Up with Character

Bratanov Syrah Viognier Pop Up is a striking, small-batch Bulgarian red made using whole-bunch co-fermentation of Syrah and Viognier grapes. Fermented with natural wild yeasts, the wine captures a vivid sense of place, allowing the fruit and vineyard character to shine without heavy intervention. The result is both expressive and beautifully textured.

Expect ripe blackberry and dark cherry layered with cracked black pepper and a gentle floral lift from the Viognier. The co-fermentation enhances aromatics while softening the structure, creating a wine that is bold yet elegant, with fine tannins and a savoury, lingering finish. A superb partner for grilled meats, roasted vegetables or slow-cooked dishes.

Bratanov family winery is the result of the hard work and dedication of a father and his sons who embarked on a mission to restore the family wine tradition after a break of 50 years. The winery's own 44ha vineyards are located on the sunny hills of South Sakar mountain near the village of Shishmanovo, Harmanli region — highly regarded as one of the best terroirs in Bulgaria, and contain the local Bulgarian varieties Rubin, Mavrud, Gamza (experimental) and Tamianka and the international Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier and Chardonnay. Their winery was established in 2010, crafting limited batches of wines with minimal intervention and controlling the whole process from the grapes to the bottle. Starting from the 2016 vintage all wines are fermented wild with the native yeasts and microflora of the vineyards.
