Why we chose it“Château Clarke was Edmond de Rothschild’s passion project and this is one of the best wines Listrac-Médoc produces. Structured, dark, cedar and plum — give it air and serve with lamb.”

About this wine
Château Clarke is one of the most celebrated estates in Listrac-Médoc, and in the hands of the Rothschild family it has become a benchmark for the appellation — structured, refined, and built to age. The 2019 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest recent years in Bordeaux, producing wines of exceptional ripeness, balance, and longevity, and Château Clarke's offering is a superb expression of the vintage at its best.
This 2019 Listrac-Médoc is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, drawn from Clarke's well-drained gravel and limestone soils. It opens with deep, plush aromas of blackberry, cassis, and dark cherry, lifted by notes of pencil lead, cedar, and subtle toast from careful oak ageing. On the palate, the wine is rich and structured, with fine-grained tannins, excellent concentration, and a long, elegant finish. The Merlot-dominant blend gives roundness and accessibility that complements the Cabernet's structure beautifully.
The Rothschild family's involvement ensures meticulous attention to both viticulture and winemaking. This is a wine that rewards cellaring — excellent now with food, but still developing, and will reward those who wait another 5–10 years. It represents outstanding value for a Rothschild-family Bordeaux.
Pair with roasted rack of lamb, beef tenderloin, confit duck, wild mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses. Decant for 30 minutes before serving to allow its full character to open fully.
