Why we chose it“Gran Reserva means minimum five years ageing — this has real development and complexity. Cedar, leather, tobacco and still plenty of dark fruit. The kind of wine you save for a proper occasion.”

About this wine
In Rioja, the Gran Reserva designation is the highest mark of quality and time — wines must spend a minimum of two years in oak and three years in bottle before release, and only the very best vintages are selected for this extended ageing. El Coto's Gran Reserva 2018 meets this standard with elegance and authority, delivering a wine of genuine depth, complexity, and classic Rioja character.
Made exclusively from Tempranillo, the great red grape of Spain, this Gran Reserva opens with refined aromas of dark cherry, dried plum, tobacco, vanilla, and a hint of leather — the classic language of aged Rioja. On the palate, it's smooth and layered, with well-integrated tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, graceful finish that reflects its years of patient maturation. The oak ageing adds complexity without dominating the fruit, resulting in a wine that is both sophisticated and genuinely approachable.
El Coto de Rioja is one of Spain's most respected and consistent producers, with vineyards spread across the finest subzones of Rioja Alta. Their commitment to quality at every level of production is evident in every glass — and the Gran Reserva is the pinnacle of their range.
A natural partner to roast lamb, beef casseroles, game dishes, and hard Spanish cheeses like Manchego. Also outstanding with venison, slow-braised ox cheek, duck confit, or a traditional Basque-style salt cod dish.
