Why we chose it

“One apple variety start to finish, which is rare and you can taste why they bothered: more tannin, more grip, more to think about. A slow glass after dinner.”

About this wine

A true expression of Somerset craftsmanship, this small-batch Cider Brandy is distilled exclusively from the revered Kingston Black apple, prized for its depth, tannin, and natural balance. Aged in oak barrels, it develops a mellow golden hue and layers of baked apple, spice, and vanilla warmth. Each sip captures the spirit of the county's orchards in liquid form.

Produced at the Somerset Cider Brandy Company's Burrow Hill distillery, this single-varietal apple brandy celebrates tradition and terroir. Ideal as a digestif, a fireside sipper, or a thoughtful gift for any lover of fine spirits.

About the producer

Julian Temperley bought Burrow Hill at Kingsbury Episcopi in 1969, and spent twenty years fighting for the licence that let him distil — granted in 1989, reviving a Somerset craft that had all but vanished. Cider apples from the surrounding orchards are pressed, fermented and distilled on the farm, then aged in oak. The Slow Food movement recognised the work in 2003.
