The Hilt Estate Chardonnay comes from the Sta. Rita Hills, one of California's most compelling cool-climate appellations, where Pacific breezes create conditions more reminiscent of Burgundy than the California sunshine stereotype. The Hilt is the Phelps family's dedication to this exceptional terroir, farming limestone-rich soils with Burgundian precision to produce Chardonnay of real restraint and elegance.
The 2023 vintage shows pale gold in the glass with alluring aromas of white peach, lemon curd, toasted hazelnut and a gentle vanilla cream note from well-judged oak ageing. Focused and minerally with creamy texture, vibrant acidity and a long, fresh finish, this is a Chardonnay for those who find California too obvious and Burgundy too expensive. Outstanding alongside roasted turbot, lobster, scallops or a fine roast chicken.
