Why we chose it

“Casa Relvas Redondo from Alentejo — dark, structured and genuinely impressive. One of Portugal’s most exciting regions producing wines that rival Bordeaux for complexity.”

About this wine

Casa Relvas is a family-owned Alentejo estate founded in 1994, farming over 700 hectares of vineyards across Portugal's vast, sun-drenched southern plains. The estate works with indigenous Portuguese varieties including Aragonez, Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet, the classic grape palette of the Alentejo, to produce wines of genuine regional character. Redondo takes its name from the Alentejo sub-region where the estate's vineyards are centred.

The 2023 expression is full-bodied and warming, with dark plum and blackberry fruit, layers of spice and earthy depth, and a rich, generous finish that reflects the Alentejo's intense sunshine and warm continental climate. A natural companion for grilled meats, slow-cooked lamb, tomato-based pasta dishes and hard aged cheeses.
