Why we chose it

“Monbazillac is Sauternes’ lesser-known neighbour — botrytised Semillon, honey, apricot and clean acidity. Château Ramon do it beautifully and at a much gentler price.”

About this wine

Monbazillac is the celebrated sweet wine appellation of Bergerac in South West France — a near-neighbour of Sauternes that produces botrytis-affected dessert wines of honeyed richness at a far friendlier price. Château Ramon is an estate producer in the heart of the appellation, making Monbazillac from noble-rot Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle harvested at peak ripeness from the region's distinctive clay-limestone slopes.

Golden amber in the glass with a nose of honeyed apricot, orange blossom, citrus zest and warm spiced complexity. Medium sweet on the palate with a luscious, rich texture balanced by the refreshing acidity typical of good Monbazillac, finishing long and aromatic. Superb with foie gras, blue cheese, soft-rind cheeses or fruit-based desserts.

About the producer

Château Ramon is an estate producer in Monbazillac, the celebrated sweet wine appellation within the Bergerac wine region of South West France. Monbazillac is produced from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle harvested with noble rot (botrytis cinerea), yielding lusciously sweet wines of golden honey, dried apricot and aromatic complexity that rival Sauternes at a fraction of the price.
