Founded in 1972 by American businessman John Goelet and French-born winemaker Bernard Portet, Clos du Val was one of the earliest wineries in Napa Valley’s now-famous Stags Leap District. With roots in fine French winemaking, Bernard’s family background at Château Lafite brought a wealth of expertise to the estate. Clos du Val began with 150 acres in Stags Leap and later expanded with an additional 180 acres in the cool Carneros region.
