Why we chose it“Vin Santo di Montepulciano from Crociani — Tuscany’s great dessert wine. Dried grapes, raisins, nuts and a clean, long finish. The traditional match with cantucci biscuits.”

About this wine
Crociani is a historic family estate at the heart of Montepulciano in Tuscany, dedicated entirely to the wines of this noble hilltop town. Alongside Vino Nobile and Rosso di Montepulciano, the estate produces one of the region's rarest and most traditional wines: Vin Santo di Montepulciano. Grapes are harvested late, then dried for months on straw mats before pressing and a long, slow fermentation and ageing in small wooden barrels, a process lasting years rather than months.
The 2018 is medium sweet with concentrated dried fig, walnut and honeyed caramel character, underpinned by a nutty, oxidative depth that is the hallmark of great Vin Santo. Wonderful with cantuccini biscuits in the Tuscan tradition, alongside soft blue or washed-rind cheeses, or simply savoured on its own after dinner.
