Why we chose it

“Fifth-generation Loire Sauvignon from vines on flint and clay in the Cher Valley — the soils that give Touraine its bite. Grapefruit, blackcurrant leaf and a citrus snap to finish. Sancerre character at a fraction of the money, and it is very hard to beat with oysters.”

About this wine

Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc at Its Most Expressive

Domaine François Cartier has been tending 25 hectares of vines on the alkaline perruche and silex soils of the Cher Valley for five generations, and this Touraine Sauvignon Blanc shows exactly why those soils suit the grape so well. The nose leads with lemon zest and grapefruit, layered with fresh herbs and a delicate suggestion of blackcurrant leaf. On the palate it is lively and refreshing, with crisp acidity balanced by a little softness, finishing with a bright citrus lift that lingers pleasantly.

Vincent Cartier, who took over from his father François in 2011 after completing his training in Australia, brings a meticulous, sustainable approach to viticulture without compromising the wine's easy-drinking character. An excellent aperitif, and a natural partner for oysters and shellfish, grilled white fish, fresh goat's cheese or a simple summer salad.
