The Quiet Star of Lake Garda
Lugana comes from the southern shore of Lake Garda, where clay soils and lake air give the wines a texture you rarely find in northern Italian whites. This one pours a deep straw yellow with green hints, and the aromas are delicate rather than showy, with white peach and a gentle floral lift. The palate is medium bodied and harmonious, fresh through the middle, and the mineral note running underneath is what marks it out as proper Lugana.
Domini Veneti is the quality arm of a long established Valpolicella cooperative, and they treat their white wines with the same care as their reds. This is a lovely partner for lake fish, roast chicken or a creamy risotto, and it has enough presence to hold its own at the table rather than disappearing. Vegan and gluten free, and a genuinely interesting alternative to another Pinot Grigio.
