The Flying Fish of Rías Baixas
Albariño grows on the wet, green Atlantic edge of Spain, and this one shows exactly why the grape has travelled so well. The colour is a bright straw yellow, the aromas are floral and generous, and the fruit arrives with real intensity rather than shyness. On the palate it is smooth and broad, with a savoury, almost saline edge that keeps everything fresh. The finish is long and refined, which is more than you usually get at this level.
El Pez Volador means the flying fish, and the name suits a wine built for the seafood that Galicia does better than almost anywhere. Pour it with grilled prawns, a plate of oysters, or a simple roast cod with lemon. It is dry, vegan certified and easy to love, so it works equally well as a summer garden white or a light aperitif before dinner.
