Why we chose it

“We don't carry many sweet reds, but this one is extraordinary. The Patagonian sun concentrates those Pinot Noir grapes to something really magical. Try it with good dark chocolate.”

About this wine

A deeply luscious late harvest red from the high-altitude vineyards of Patagonia, made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes concentrated and raisined naturally in the sun before being vinified without oak influence. The result is a wine of extraordinary intensity, with aromas of violets, plum and dark cherry leading to a sweet, velvety palate of dark chocolate and ripe fruit, with very fine, silky tannins and a lingering finish. Utterly compelling.

Familia Schroeder is one of Patagonia's most celebrated producers, and the Saurus Late Harvest is a genuine cult wine in their range. At 15% ABV and brimming with natural sweetness, it is perfect alongside rich chocolate desserts or simply on its own as a special end to a meal. Contains sulphites and egg; suitable for vegetarians.

About the producer

Familia Schroeder was founded in 2001 at San Patricio del Chañar in Neuquén, on the northern edge of Argentine Patagonia. Digging the gravity-flow cellar in 2002 uncovered a titanosaur fossil some seventy-five million years old, still preserved beneath the winery and the source of the Saurus name. Cool nights and desert light give the Malbec and Pinot Noir their lift.
