Why we chose it

“Melnik 55 is Bulgaria’s most characterful red — named after the grape and the town. Spicy, dark, earthy and unmistakably itself. Winston Churchill was reportedly a fan.”

About this wine

Distinctive & Smooth

Logodaj Winery Melnik 55 showcases Bulgaria's signature grape in a modern and expressive style. Expect aromas of ripe black cherries, plums, and subtle spice, supported by a smooth texture and gentle tannins. It's a wine that balances richness with freshness, offering something a little different yet highly approachable.

Grown in the sunlit Struma Valley, Melnik 55 thrives in the warm climate and limestone soils, producing wines with character and elegance. Perfect alongside grilled meats, hearty casseroles, or Mediterranean-inspired dishes — a red that brings both tradition and discovery to the glass.

About the producer

Logodaj Winery is a Bulgarian producer in the Struma River Valley near Blagoevgrad, in one of Bulgaria's warmest and most southerly wine regions. The winery specialises in Melnik — Bulgaria's most distinctive indigenous grape variety, grown only in this region — producing wines of deep colour, rich texture, and impressive structure from this ancient variety.

Melon 55

Thought I would give this wine a go as it was a favourite of Winston Churchill, well what can I say but Winston had great taste in red wine. A lovely dark red colour and a deceptive first slurp brings a super easy drink which then catches up to you with a powerful warm feeling in your stomach. Let’s just say it’s dangerously good. 😉

Thank you, Tony — we’re delighted you enjoyed the Logodaj Winery Melnik 55. This distinctive red wine from Bulgaria is full of depth, warmth, and character, and we’re so pleased it lived up to its reputation. A dangerously good choice indeed!
