About this wine

Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas Tinto is the flagship red from one of Portugal's most respected winemakers, crafted from a selection of old vineyards across the Bairrada region. The vines are all over 40 years old, with some considerably older, bringing remarkable concentration, structure and complexity to the final wine. Produced primarily from the traditional Baga grape, it undergoes stainless steel vinification before spending more than a year ageing in used French oak barrels, allowing the purity of the fruit and the unmistakable identity of Bairrada to remain at the forefront.

The result is a beautifully balanced and expressive Portuguese red, showing layers of dark cherry, blackberry and wild berry fruit alongside earthy spice, dried herbs and savoury complexity. Fine tannins and fresh acidity give the wine energy and elegance, while the old vine fruit delivers impressive depth and length on the palate. A superb partner for roast lamb, game dishes, chargrilled meats and mature cheeses, this is a refined and characterful wine that captures the heritage and individuality of Bairrada perfectly.
