About this wine

Adelaide Hills, Bottled with Purpose

Penfolds Max's Chardonnay is a beautifully composed expression of cool-climate Australian winemaking, sourced entirely from the Adelaide Hills and crafted in the polished, precise style that defines the Max's tier. Pale gold in the glass, the nose delivers honeydew melon, white peach and grapefruit citrus, lifted by lemon and lime curd, pistachio nuts, creamy cashew and nougat, with a subtle rock-flint character lending intrigue. On the palate, ripe white peach and finger lime lead, with a sweet, creamy biscuity quality from lees battonage, underpinned by a fine mineral acidity that keeps everything fresh and focused to a long, elegant finish. A small proportion of French oak barriques adds texture without ever dominating the fruit.

Named in honour of Max Schubert, Penfolds' first Chief Winemaker and the visionary behind Grange, this is a wine that carries the Penfolds quality stamp at an everyday price. A natural partner for roast chicken, grilled sea bass or a generous plate of creamy soft cheese, or equally at home on a warm afternoon with good company.
