About this wine
Penfolds Max's Shiraz Cabernet is a richly rewarding red blend from South Australia, combining the generous dark fruit of Shiraz with the structure and backbone of Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep crimson in the glass, the nose opens with blackberry, mulberry compote and poached plums, lifted by a hint of mulberry leaf and bay leaf from the Cabernet inclusion, alongside warm baking spices that signal the presence of Shiraz from the warmer inland districts. On the palate, dark fruit leads, with blackberry and blue-black compote, supportive oak that frames without dominating, fine tannins and fresh acidity delivering a long, balanced finish.
Named in honour of Max Schubert, Penfolds' legendary first Chief Winemaker who redefined what Australian wine could be, this is very much a Penfolds wine for every day, with the quality stamp and the blending philosophy all there at an approachable price. Drink it now with a well-seasoned lamb chop, a grilled rib-eye steak, or a slow-braised beef ragu.
