Why we chose it

“Cheddar Ales brew just up the road, and this is their hoppy one — citrus and pine, still light enough to have a second. Pork, or anything with chilli in it.”

About the producer

Cheddar Ales was founded in 2006 by Jem Ham, a Somerset man who left banking for brewing, and works from the foot of the Mendip Hills beside Cheddar Gorge. The beers take their names from the landscape — Gorge Best bitter, the golden Potholer named for the caves above the village. A taproom opened at the brewery in 2020.
