About this wine

A Limited Douro Red from Old Vines

QPA Prova No 4 Tinto 2016 is an old vine blend from Quinta da Pedra Alta, made predominantly from Tinta Roriz in a restrained, elegant style. Earlier picking, gentle handling and maturation in older French oak barriques allow for a more sensitive expression of the Douro, showing great complexity now with excellent potential for further cellaring. Only 550 bottles were produced.

This wine is part of the Prova series — limited-edition bottles born from winemaking experimentation. Prova 4 originates from the 2016 vintage, when winemakers João and Matt sourced grapes from a neighbouring vineyard to explore different interpretations of Douro reds. A classic Douro vintage, 2016 gave fruit of real precision and balance, allowing this wine to develop its own distinctive character.

About the producer

Quinta da Pedra Alta is a premium Douro Valley estate located near Alijó in the Cima Corgo sub-region. The quinta holds the extraordinary distinction of having three original granite markers from the historic 1758 demarcation of the Douro wine region on its land. Since 2018, under owner Ed Woodward, resident winemaker João Pires, and Australian consultant Matt Gant, the estate has emerged as one of the Douro's most exciting producers of structured table wines and traditional Port.
