Why we chose it

“Amaretto carries a sweet reputation it doesn't always deserve. Tosolini's is drier and nuttier than the famous one — over ice after dinner, or poured on vanilla ice cream.”

About this wine

Bepi Tosolini is a family-owned distillery based in Friuli, northeast Italy, producing grappas, liqueurs and spirits of exceptional quality since the 1960s. Saliza Amaretto is their signature expression of Italy's best-loved almond liqueur — crafted with far more care and natural character than mass-market Amarettos, and noticeably less cloying in its sweetness. The name Saliza comes from the narrow Venetian pathways that lead you somewhere unexpected — an apt metaphor for a liqueur that surprises with its depth and refinement.

Deep amber with a warm, inviting nose of toasted almond, marzipan and sweet bitter orange. The palate is smooth and well-balanced — genuine almond character, warm bittersweet depth and a clean, satisfying finish. Excellent on the rocks as a digestif, in an Amaretto Sour, or poured over vanilla ice cream.

About the producer

Bepi Tosolini has distilled in Friuli since 1943, when Giuseppe 'Bepi' Tosolini began making grappa from local grapes in the years after the war. The family moved to a purpose-built distillery at Povoletto, near Udine, in 1973, where bain-marie and Charentais stills still work small batches. Alongside single-variety grappa the house makes amari and liqueurs, including the Saliza amaretto.
