Why we chose it

“One apple, one cider, and the Redstreak's bittersweet tannin does all the work while the oak rounds the edges. At 8.4% treat it like wine — pork, or a hard cheese.”

About this wine

From the heart of Somerset cider country, Thatchers' Cider Barn Oak-Aged Redstreak is a bold single-varietal cider that showcases the Redstreak apple in its purest form. Fermented and matured in seasoned oak vats, this limited release brings depth, warmth and tradition together with unmistakable craftsmanship.

The Redstreak apple is famed for its bittersweet intensity, delivering vibrant tannins and a natural fruit richness. Time in oak softens the edges and layers in notes of vanilla and gentle spice, while preserving a crisp, refreshing finish. The result is a cider with balance, structure and a sense of heritage, a true nod to Somerset's cider-making roots, brought to life with Thatchers' skill.

About the producer

Thatchers has made cider at Myrtle Farm in Sandford, North Somerset, since William Thatcher pressed his first apples there in 1904. Four generations have followed, with Martin Thatcher running the business since 1992 and the fifth generation now coming through. The orchards around the farm still supply the fruit, from Katy to the traditional bittersweet Redstreak.
