The English Whisky Company Smokey

£46.99

A gently peated English single malt with sweet, soft peat smoke on the nose alongside vanilla, yellow fruit, and plum. The palate balances malt sweetness — barley, toffee, apple, and pear — with a pleasing rasp of smoke on the finish, which lingers warmly.

Why we chose it

“For anyone who finds Islay too much, here is the gentler way in — soft smoke over toffee and orchard fruit rather than a bonfire. A drop of water opens it right up.”

About this wine

The English Distillery at St George's in Roudham, Norfolk, was England's first dedicated whisky distillery in over a century when it was established by the Nelstrop family in 2006. Producing a full range of single malts under The English Whisky Company label, from clean, unpeated expressions to lightly and heavily smoked releases, the distillery has established itself as a genuine pioneer of English whisky. Smokey is their signature peated expression: a lightly smoked single malt that balances the soft, sweet qualities of English barley with the character of peat smoke.

The nose shows sweet, soft peat smoke alongside vanilla, yellow fruit and plum. The palate is warming and well-balanced, with malt sweetness of barley, toffee, apple and pear, and a pleasing rasp of smoke that lingers warmly on the finish. A revelation for those who appreciate a gentler peated style alongside the Islay heavyweights.
