About this wine

Sourced exclusively from Vignamaggio's prestigious Santa Maria a Petriolo vineyard in the heart of Chianti, this Toscana IGT Merlot showcases the refined side of the variety. Aged for up to 24 months in barrel, followed by a further 8 months of bottle rest, the 2015 vintage presents a bright ruby colour with dark hues and an intense nose of blueberry and liquorice.

The palate is full yet restrained, rich in fruit but never heavy, with soft, sweet tannins and a long, spicy finish. A wine of real character from one of Chianti's most historic organic estates, best enjoyed with slow-cooked meats, truffle dishes or aged pecorino.

About the producer

Vignamaggio is a historic Chianti Classico estate near Greve in Chianti, Tuscany, with a history spanning over five centuries. The estate is renowned for its connection to the Mona Lisa legend — Lisa Gherardini, thought to be Leonardo da Vinci's model, was born here in 1479. Today the estate produces outstanding Chianti Classico Riserva, Sangiovese, and international varieties from its beautifully preserved Renaissance gardens and vineyards.
