Why we chose it“Château Musar Red 2016 — Musar from a great recent vintage. The 2016 is drinking beautifully: complex, brooding and utterly unlike any other wine on the shelf.”

About this wine
Château Musar Red 2016 is an equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan, grown high in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley. It pours a deep ruby with real weight in the glass. Red cherries, plums, carob and figs lead the nose, with a lift of eastern spice behind them. Kirsch and plum carry onto the palate alongside blackcurrant and chocolate, and the tannins are velvety soft. There is genuine depth and fruit concentration here, and the finish goes on and on.
Musar is one of the wine world's true originals. Each variety ferments with its own natural yeasts in concrete vats, spends twelve months in French oak, and is then blended and bottled without fining or filtration. Very little is done to it, and that is rather the point. Serve at 16 to 18°C with grilled lamb, roast beef or a spread of Lebanese mezze, and it is equally happy alongside aged hard cheeses.
